Escapades,Thoughts and Paintings by Jinnie May

I received an Honorable Mention award for my painting " Imagine a Straw in Something Tropical" at the recent NJ Art Association  show at Overlook Medical Center in Summit , NJ.

Thank you to the judge Dr. Brian Sahotsky.  The judge's comments about my painting are "The title of the work evokes a daydream of some far-off paradise somewhere, without much suggestion of a sandy beach or a Mai Tai at all. Instead, here we see some suggestions of office chairs and a stuffy desk job that are disrupted by the Abstract Expressionist brushwork and color splashes. The style is used effectively to weave a story or imaginative vignette. There is a nice color interplay here, like a Willem DeKoonig but without the requisite investigation of “ugliness” found in those works. This is a rare work that can accomplishes exactly what the imperative title asks the viewer to do."

Interesting to hear someone else's interpretation!
