Down East , Maine (watercolor)

Down East isn't a town in Maine. "Down East", also "Downeast", is a term for parts of eastern coastal New England and Canada, particularly the U.S. state of Maine and Canada's Maritime Provinces, an area that closely corresponds to the historical French territory of Acadia. Wikipedia

I'm revisiting some of my original compositions of successful watercolors.  This is a painting of a small village along the coast of Maine. such a beautiful state! Watercolor is a very relaxing medium for me, a lot has to do with not having to wash brushes full of acrylic paint when I call it quits for a day. With watercolor I just walk away, no fear of finding a "stiff as a board" brush the next morning along with open ,solid rock paint jars and tubes. Working on a piece 30" x 22" is a lot less physical than working on stretched canvas 40" x 40".

note the bathing suit on the clothes line. This was worn by one brave soul as the water barely reaches 55 degrees. I'm cold just thinking about a swim in Bar Harbor many years ago.
